2048: build from a corner

Good decisions often prepare two moves at once: the one you make now and the space you leave for the next.

Choose an anchor

Keeping your largest tile in a corner can help you organize the board. Build a row or column of high values beside it instead of scattering them. This is not a guarantee of winning, but a way to reduce disorder.

Merge with intention

Before swiping, consider where the resulting tile will land. A high-scoring move can leave small tiles blocking an important combination. Waiting one move may help align values more usefully.

2 2 2 2 → 4 4 · ·A left move produces two fours. They do not merge into eight until another move: each tile can merge only once per turn.

Empty cells are strategic space

Each valid move creates a new tile, usually 2 and occasionally 4. When only one empty cell remains, you have few ways to reorganize. Look for moves that create space as well as points.

What counts as a valid move

If no tile moves or merges in a direction, the board stays unchanged and no new tile appears. Checking a blocked direction therefore does not make your position worse.

Beyond 2048

Reaching 2048 shows a message and lets you continue. A game ends when no legal moves remain. Your best score stays on your device rather than being compared with an external leaderboard.
