Twelve coins, unknown weight
Eleven coins are genuine and weigh the same. The twelfth has a different weight, but you do not know whether it is heavier or lighter. Identify the coin and its weight direction in at most three weighings. A correct guess counts as proved only if the weighings exclude every other possibility.
